Unraveling FDA

This bracelet titled “Unraveling FDA is just finished.

It turned out amazing, but it was extremely challenging to finish this bracelet. I thought it would take seven days to construct. It took seven months of constant struggle.

Unraveling FDA uses recycled tin cans mostly the ingredients and nutrition labels.c

The structure of the bracelet is supposed to look like it is coming apart, unraveling so to speak. “It speaks to how the Trump administration is tearing apart nutrition and health guidelines and instilling even more doubt in what people think they know about those topics.”* The guidance and administration of the FDA is coming apart in chaos, even dismantling an  independent advisory committee to overhaul the childhood immunization schedule.

Women’s right to choice is being eroded. This has become a core issue (hence it’s position in the center of the bracelet shown below.) The Republican and Project 2025 agenda are doing everything possible to take away abortion rights even though government support for childcare, and public education lack funding.

This bracelet is about the FDA half-truths, censorship, and misinformation  posing as safety reviews, along with politically motivated delays in approving over-the-counter access to emergency contraception and blocking evidence based science. The guidance and administration of the FDA is coming apart in chaos, even dismantling an  independent advisory committee to overhaul the childhood immunization schedule. Vaccinees which are based on scientific evidence .

I will add more images and commentary soon.
There is a great post on Instagram about this bracelet, if you want to take a look.

Fabrication of Unraveling FDA

This gallery of images (below) is designed to provide insight into the more the seven month effort to complete this bracelet. What it does not reveal is the level of concern and frustration when this did not look good. It was really difficult to create this bracelet so it was both beautiful and provocative. E.L. Doctorow described the creative journey as “Writing is like driving at night in the fog. You can only see as far as your headlights, but you can make the whole trip that way."
