This Flower Pin is made from a new discovery for me. Film canisters! And to think for all these years, I never realized that film canisters were made from tin, and they were thrown away.

This pin is titled, “Kodak Moment in Low Light” because I used 1000 speed film for low light. It is all post-consumer tin cans or post-consumer black plastic from take out trays. As part of a new series, each and every petal is slightly curved.

The center is a film canister from Ektar 1000 with red lines. Next layer is Penguin Caffeinated Mints with black and white lines. Drama escalates with red to orange with Chinese lettering from a super amazing tin. Continuing to the back is post consumer black plastic from take out trays, and a tin from  Phillips Crab. The back layer is black and Kodak orange colors.

The back of the pin is Phillips Claw, I signed this pin into the tin with my signature. Harriete Estel Berman

This is a larger Flower pin with more layers, and larger in dimension. The pointy shapes are a metaphor. Despite the black pointy projections, they are soft and durable which is exactly want makes plastic so threatening to our environment. In the land fill is is projected to take 100 years for plastic to decompose.

This pin will not damage your clothing. It is not gender specific.

Dimensions: at the widest point of the plastic it is 7” but the flower area is 3.5”.

I do not discount my work or have sales with reduced prices knowing fully well how much time and effort has gone into the fabrication of this work, plus 38 years of working with tins cans. I do not compromise on style or technique.
