Desirable Fruit Crate label and bracelets from the California Collection
Desirable Fruit Crate label and bracelets from the California CollectionFruit crate labels were an early 20th century invention of California to create an identity for California fruits and vegetables. The labels themselves were printed in San Francisco where there was a highly competitive industry for lithographic printing of the labels. The labels also functioned as an identity for the products of either individuals farms or collectives of growers. Here is an image of the vintage Desirable fruit crate label that inspired my 3-dimensional version.
Bracelet
BraceletThe fruit crate symbolically represents the historic fertility of California’s valleys bountiful with fruits and vegetables. For example, orchards once covered large areas of the San Francisco Bay Area, but it now blooms with inventions and enterprising ventures. The bracelets symbolize the innovative and entrepreneurial spirit of California. California exports ideas as well as products from its fertile valleys. This fruit crate holds four brands of chocolate from California.
